“Before we got Dad admitted into hospice, we were such a mess. We all wanted to help, but nobody knew how to do anything to help him feel comfortable. The UCLAH staff who came to our home were all great. They did so much to help Dad feel better, but I didn’t know that they would help us so much, too. They were always professional and cheerful, and the nurses were always available to answer our questions over the phone, no matter when we called. The counselor came to visit and listened to us rant and rave and cry, and he helped Dad get his affairs in order. Dad just lost his fight with vascular disease. The UCLAH staff were there until the very end, grieving alongside us. The counselor visited again to offer us bereavement counseling. And then, somehow, the UCLAH staff went back to work. I don’t know how they can do what they do every single day. Very special, very dedicated people work there.”
